This is easily the tenth article I've read that blurs the line between Google Scholar and Google Print. I suppose it's understandable, but I reckon a Brand Manager at Google might want to get on this...
Google has also compiled a database, Google Scholar, that lets users search various universities and organizes the search results by relevance. Duke participates in Google Scholar, but it has also recently developed the Digital Production Center, a new enterprise with the goal of digitizing library collections and expanding digital content to the Duke community.
This is easily the tenth article I've read that blurs the line between Google Scholar and Google Print. I suppose it's understandable, but I reckon a Brand Manager at Google might want to get on this...

No, not all books are considered scholarly. Scholarly communication is evaluated for quality (often peer-reviewed), disseminated for public good, and preserved for future use. Most books, even non-scholarly books, do go through an editorial process. Web pages are neither peer-reviewed nor subject to editorial process.

By definition peer-review means the review is coming from the "community of the adequate," i. e., those who are qualified to perform peer review. Open Source, WikiPedia, etc. are open to anyone, and "anyone," by definition, does not restrict reviewing to peers. E. g., an article written by a nuclear engineer is not being "peer-reviewed" when a net-savvy 12 year old decides to modify one of the formulas. She would have the technical ability to do so, but that kind of "peer" modification should not be confused with scholarly peer-review. Ditto for the popularity rankings, which are content agnostic.

I don't understand the question. The previous post was fairly explanatory. The essence of scholarly peer-review is that it is done by recognized scholars (human beings who have demonstrated their adequacy to the task). Scholars in the disciplines recognize their own peers. Or is that not what you were asking?
