Net Generation Students and Libraries
Longish article (chapter?) about the ways in which academic libraries are failing the current generation of students. A bit heavy on gross jargon as Educause writings often are (marketplace of ideas, etc.), but a fairly strong piece that speaks to some of the reasons why Google Scholar (and other disintermediaries) will someday rule the roost, if we don't get our acts together. She paints with an incredibly broad brush and I'm sure you'll find lots to disagree with, but worth the read nonetheless. (thanks Brad!)

Why not go further? We could have pizza parties, beer, an area for wet t-shirt contests, and... oh, yeah, 50 inch plasma high definition flat screen TVs on all the walls, with favorite programs, I mean, like, we have to appeal to this visually oriented generation. The library would be totally, like, totally, an awesome environment, dude!

Sitting and listening is so....synchronous. The hip (yet, apparently, nonconvivial) thing to do would be to distribute iPod Shuffles to patrons for asynchronous communication. This is important for the promotion of information literacy and a rational approach to problems of poverty, nuclear war, racism, and overpopulation.
